Located in Ruifang District, Houtong is well-known for its cat population. A cat lover started a team of volunteers to take care of the abandoned cats and slowly, the number of cats grew and attracted cat lovers who shared about Houtong Cat Village.
How to get there?
Buy the "One Day pass for Pingxi Line" at Taipei Railway Station so you could visit a few stops along the train line. From Taipei Railway Station, take train to Ruifang (瑞芳). If you are not sure which platform, check with the station person.
Alight at Ruifang Station (瑞芳車站) and change to the train travelling towards Jingtong (菁桐).
Houtong Station is just one stop after Ruifang.
Walkway towards the hillside cat village
At the hillside village, there's a shop selling postcards and some cat items.
Near the railway station, there are food and drink stalls. Ah Hiong (老妈) and I settled our lunch at the food stall nearby.
After our meal, we crossed the bridge to the other side of village.
Awesome view from the bridge
A small fee for the short ride. The guide explained to us about the coal mining process in the early days.
Next, we took the train to Shifen (十分) and Jingtong (菁桐).
