From Kaohsiung International Airport station, take the MRT to
Kaohsiung Main Station (NT35). You are recommended to get an iPass or EasyCard for ease of travel around Kaohsiung. Both cards can be purchased/top-up at the MRT stations and used for MRT, light rail, bus, train and ferry rides.
I've decided to make the room reservation based on the location of the hotel which is very convenient. There are buses near the hotel which I could take to the places that I intend to go.
Below are some of the buses that I took during the trip. Do check out which bus stop (opposite or in front of the hotel) along the same road, based on the bus routes (direction indicated by an arrow) provided at the bus stops. Alternatively, taking the MRT could be faster if the waiting time of the bus is longer.
